Improper selection of the electric gate valve used will not only affect the use, but also bring adverse consequences or serious losses. In pipeline engineering, the correct selection of electric gate valves is one of the guarantee conditions to meet the usage requirements.


1. Functional requirements of electric gate valve

According to engineering control requirements, for electric gate valves, the control function is completed by electric devices. The purpose of using electric gate valves is to achieve non-manual electrical control or computer control of the valve's opening, closing and adjustment linkage. The current use of electric devices is no longer just for saving manpower. Since the functions and quality of products from different manufacturers vary greatly, the selection of electric devices and the selection of matching valves are equally important to the project.

2. Working environment of electric gate valve

In addition to paying attention to pipeline parameters, electric gate valves should also pay special attention to their working environmental conditions, because the electric device in the electric gate valve is an electromechanical device, and its working conditions are greatly affected by its working environment.

Normally, the working environment of electric gate valves is as follows:
1) Indoor installation or outdoor use with protective measures;
2) Installed outdoors in the open, subject to erosion by wind, sand, rain, dew, sunlight, etc.;
3) With flammable, explosive gas or dust environment;
4) Environment in humid tropics and dry tropics;
5) The pipeline medium temperature is as high as 480℃ or above;
6) The ambient temperature is below -20℃;
7) Easy to be flooded or immersed in water;
8) Environment with radioactive materials (nuclear power plants and radioactive material testing facilities);
9) Environment on ships or docks (with salt spray, mold, moisture);
10) In situations with severe vibration;
11) Situations prone to fire;

For electric gate valves in the above environment, their electric device structures, materials and protective measures are different. Therefore, the corresponding valve electric device should be selected according to the above working environment.

3. Electrical control of electric gate valve

As the requirements for the level of industrial automation continue to increase, on the one hand, the use of electric gate valves is increasing, and on the other hand, the control requirements for electric gate valves are becoming higher and more complex. Therefore, the design of electrical control of electric gate valves is also constantly updated. With the advancement of science and technology and the popularization of computers, new and diverse electrical control methods will continue to appear. Considering the overall control of the electric gate valve, attention should be paid to selecting the control method of the electric gate valve. For example, depending on the needs of the project, whether to use centralized control or single-unit control, whether to link with other equipment, program control or application of computer program control, etc., the control principles are different. The valve electric device manufacturer's sample only provides standard electrical control principles, so the user department should conduct technical briefings with the electric device manufacturer to clarify technical requirements.

In addition, when selecting an electric gate valve, you should consider whether to purchase an additional electric gate valve controller. Because generally, the controller needs to be purchased separately. In most cases, when using a single control, you need to purchase a controller, because purchasing a controller is more convenient and cheaper than designing and manufacturing it yourself. When the electrical control performance cannot meet the engineering design requirements, modification or redesign should be proposed to the manufacturer.
